In Langkawi, it's raining

So after a morning ferry to Langkawi, we arrived to a heavy rainfall, and I was fortunate enough to slip and fall on my knees in a huge puddle!

We arrived at our RCI timeshare hotel, which looked very nice from the pictures....however we have decided that surely it once was nice.....in about 1975. Our first room reeked of urine, so we were able to move to a new one thankfully. It has some old school charm to it, but it is in bad need of refurbishing. I am reminded vaguely of the hotel in Lake Balaton (all those who were on the field school with me will know exactly what I mean here) but at least the room is free of bugs for now.

It does have the longest swimming pool in Malaysia however, so that is one perk. We hae a week here so keep a look out for how our week progresses!

Dad- when and why are you going to Mexico City?!

Comments:
Hi Sarah and Rob.....good to hear you have safely arrived at your latest destination. Yes, that is always the problem it seems with those RCI timeshares....some are gorgeous, some, well, need work!! And the pictures almost always lie......Sarah, you might try your old "poop scooping days" trick ofbreathing through your mouth when in those urine infested areas!!! I still remember how often we ran across that in Asia during your high school trips. SEND PICTURES!!! Rob...loved your little bit on "falling for the oldest tourist trick in the book".....just be thankful it wasn't a lovely lady of the night, insisting on drinking champagne with you guys......that might have set you back a tad in travel funds!!!
Guys are off golfing today (saturday.....gorgeous day yet again, slightly cool, but clear blue skies....the mountains look spectacular) I just took Tessie for a long walk near the river in Cochrane and am off for the other half of my workout day, weights at Westside. Think we will do our own version of the Gulu Walk tomorrow....ie. 10 km. in the mountains in honour of the little children of Uganda. We have a surprise birthday party to attend at 7:00 and as we one of only a handful going, need to be there for the surprise. Haven't heard from Nathan about the walk....he said he would call us when we talked last (was it at your going away party?).
Anyway, I leave on the 31st for my annual walk/shop/reading week in Vancouver and then join up with Linda and Corliss for our five days at Kingfisher Spa......can hardly wait!! It has worked in wonderfully as an annual girl's retreat.....our fourth I believe.
Dad is leaving for Mexico City the day after I get back to a restorative health spa about an hour's drive from the city (in the mountains)....will let him tell you more about it later. It will help with any residual aches and pains from his accident. Ran into Dave Noseworthy Thursday after my dental appointment....he was having lunch with his uncle Ken....nice dude.....was great to chat with him.....Dad and I still hope to join Dave and Karen in China next spring....will see what the fall brings. Have a great weekend there in Langkawi....lots of love and hugs, mom

HOTEL PELSO!!!! Sorry. You may go back to your backpacking now.

Glad to hear that you're having such an adventure and have only been swindled by minimal numbers of locals.

Rob........Sarah can tell you about my enlightening experience changing money with a gypsy in Budapest..........as you are finding out, some things you just don't learn in school........Brian
